Setting up Yale Lock in the Yale app
Setting up Yale Lock in the Yale app

Hardware checklist:
- Yale Lock
- Connect Module
- Connect Wifi Bridge (Optional)
- White Bluetooth Module requires Connect Wifi Bridge
- Black Wifi Module can use Connect Wifi Bridge to extend range
Please note, for this process, you will need a Phillips head screwdriver, wifi credentials for the unit you'll be working on, and the Master Code for the lock.
*Note if the module is white, the wifi bridge is mandatory. If the module is black, the wifi bridge is optional (wifi bridge is used for better battery life and better connectivity)
Step 1: Lock Installation
We encourage our clients to obtain the services of a professional locksmith. If you decide to take this on yourself, we recommend that you download the BILT app on your smartphone. Search for “Yale” and choose your model. This step-by-step guide will help walk you through the physical installation of the lock.
- Once the lock is installed on the door, carefully insert the black Connect Bluetooth + Wifi Module into the slot in the back of the lock.
- Program a 4-6 digit MASTERCODE onto the lock by entering the following into the keypad:
1
MASTERCODE
(Make sure that you remember this code or write it down).
Step 2: Account Setup
1. Make sure your phone's Bluetooth is turned on and you are connected to the unit's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
2. Download the free mobile app. Yale Access if you are in the US/Canada or Yale Home if you are in the rest of the world.
3. Create a new account (under 'Set Up My First Device') or sign in to an existing account.
Step 3: Lock Setup
NOTE: If installing multiple locks, please ensure that the batteries are only installed one lock at a time so that the app does not search for all locks in the immediate area.
- Ensure door is locked and the batteries and module are out, take a photo of the module’s QR code and serial number prior to beginning the installation, as you will need this for the lock set up
- On the home screen of the app, click the 3 lines on the top left corner
- Click 'Set up a device' and click ‘Continue my device is installed’, if your device is not installed, follow the installation instructions
- There are 3 ways to set up the lock in the Yale app:
- Scan QR code on the module:
- By default, you will be asked to scan the QR code on the module. If your module doesn’t have a Yale logo on the QR code, please try the serial number method by clicking ‘my product has no QR code’
- Serial Number method:
- When prompted, enter SN number from the module
- Product Selector: If you cannot enter a serial number or it did not work, click on 'Use product selector instead' Select 'Yale', then 'Smart Lock, then select ‘Yale Assure Lock’ for deadbolt or ‘Yale Assure Lever” for lever locks
- Scan QR code on the module:
- Follow the next steps inside the app.
- Install Device: If your device is already set up on the door, “click continue my device is installed” otherwise follow installation instructions and follow the app instructions to set up the lock onto the door
- Install Module:
- Click “continue my module is installed”
- The app will attempt to find a device, and once found it will indicate “Device Found”. Enter the serial number to proceed
- Module is registered:
- After installing the module, please enter MASTERCODE
7
to register the lock,
(If the number 7 does not appear on the keypad, it may be because the module is not properly seating within the lock. In this case, remove the module from the lock and insert it again.) - If you are not able to enter 7, please remove a battery and the module and then insert the module and then the battery and try again.
- You are not required to install "DoorSense" on your door (Door sense is optional and it can be set up at any time in the future if you require it.)
- After installing the module, please enter MASTERCODE
- Click begin Setup:
- Wait for app to find the lock
- Rename the lock to add the unit name and location of the lock (for example 123 First Ave - Garage Door) while setting up the lock. Do not keep the default Front door name.
- Create a new House for each property/listing. If you have multiple locks for the same listing, you can use the same house.
- Click continue
- Follow the instructions in the app through the calibration process
- Click “dont use doorsense”, then click “continue” when prompted to disable DoorSense
- Click ‘OK’ when prompted to use Home Data
- Click 'Skip for Now’' when prompted to set up "HomeKit"
Step 4: Setup Wifi: There are 2 ways to connect the lock to your Wifi:
- Using Wifi Module (For the Black Wifi Module only)
- Make sure your phone is connected to the 2.4 GHz WiFi.
- When prompted to set up WiFi, select "Use my module."
- Follow the installation instructions, and after installation, you can select "Complete installation."
- Now, you will be prompted to set up your WiFi.
- When you’re already connected to the 2.4 GHz WiFi, you can select ‘Begin Wi-fi Setup’
- When prompted to Test Signals click ‘Skip for Now’
- When prompted to create Entry Code click ‘Skip for Now’
- When prompted to set up Guest Access click ‘Done’
- Set up a Wifi bridge
Connect Bridge placement tips:
- Whenever possible, plug the Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge into your socket right-side up. The top and sides of the Connect Bridge provide the strongest bluetooth and Wi-Fi signals.
- While the location closest to your lock and/or router will usually result in the best signal, this may not always be the case. If your signal needs improvement, try several sockets in the general area and compare the best signal results.
- Plug the bridge into a power socket within 10-15 feet of the lock, in an inconspicuous area where the risk of it getting unplugged is minimal. *Note that only one lock can be connected to each bridge. Note: Ensure this plug is not connected to a switch that a guest could potentially turn on and off.
- If the light on the Bridge is not already flashing green, hold the button on the bridge for 5 seconds until it does so, then tap ‘OK’.
- From the home screen of the app, tap 'Set up a device'
- You will be asked to scan the QR code on your bridge.
- If you can't scan the code, click 'Can't scan the code?' and enter the serial number located behind the bridge.
- If you cannot enter a serial number or it did not work, click on 'Can't find the serial number' Select 'Yale', then 'Accessory, then 'Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge'
- It is important to note that you must be connected to a 2.4 GHz WiFi connection in order to function properly
- Click start to set up Wifi
- Check to make sure that the correct network is selected. The bridge will now connect to that network
- Skip ‘Test Signals’
- When prompted to create Entry Code click ‘Skip for Now’
- When prompted to set up Guest Access click ‘Done’
Step 5: Test the lock
- Test Wifi Signal: Go to Settings on the bottom right corner
- For lock setup using the Module,
- Select Lock Settings
- Scroll down and select Wifi Signal
- Confirm you are getting good Wifi Signal
*If the signal strength is low, consider adding a bridge to boost signal.
- For lock setup using the Bridge,
- Select Bridge settings
- Confirm you are getting good Wifi and BLE (Bluetooth) Signal and your SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) is not bad.
- Test Lock/Unlock over Bluetooth:
- Make sure you are in the Bluetooth range
- Make sure your Bluetooth is on and Wifi is off
- Try to lock/unlock via the app
- Test Lock/Unlock over Wifi:
- Make sure your Bluetooth is off and Wifi is on
- Try to lock/unlock via the app
Once you have passed all 3 tests, the lock is ready to be connected in Operto!

- Tap on the "People icon" in the property view
- Tap 'Invite'
- Invite with "Full Access" (Android) or "App Access" (Apple)
- Invite via the mobile number that was given to you in your onboarding email.
- Enter "Operto" as the first name and "Support" as the last name
- Grant this user 'Owner' access level
- These steps must be performed for each lock in your account.
