[Operto Connect] Network Criteria for IoT Devices

Determine if your wifi network is set-up for success.
- Confirm that you have good internet signal at each of your doors using a speed test.
- For vacation rentals, stand by the door and test the router signal strength.
- For hotel/motel rooms, test the rooms furthest away from the router/access points to ensure reliable signal strength
- A network with 25-30 Mbps per unit should be sufficient to run IoT devices and other guest needs
- Have there been any issues with the current network reported by guests or staff when connecting to wifi? Test those properties/rooms extra carefully or consult your Operto contact.
- Use 2.4Ghz frequency band when connecting to your wifi.
- Most routers support both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies but most IoT devices require the 2.4Ghz network. Ensure that it’s enabled and visible on your modem/router.
- If possible, set up a separate network (SSID) for IoT devices that can’t be accessed by guests for optimal connectivity.
- Is there an authentication page/welcome page required to log in to the network?
- This should be disabled for the separate device network you are recommended to set-up
- For weaker networks, add additional wired/wireless access points to strengthen coverage
- Wifi extenders/repeaters do not increase the wifi speeds, they just extend the range of the existing network. This may help in certain areas of a room with weaker signals.
- If still having issues connecting with your devices, reach out to support@operto.com or have a network specialist conduct a site assessment before installing IoT devices. Networks set up by a professional have drastically greater results.
